Cheshire East Council has cancelled planned works at the junction of Congleton Road and Moss Lane in Macclesfield by mutual agreement with the developer.
The works were intended to provide a right-turn lane from Congleton Road into Moss Lane. They were to be delivered by a housing developer through a Section 278 agreement as part of a scheme approved through the planning process in 2017.
Why the works have been cancelled
The traffic impacts of the development were assessed during the original 2017 planning application. That assessment included assumptions about future traffic movements and other development around the junction.
Over the nine years since approval, these circumstances have changed significantly. Cheshire East Council has determined that the works, as initially agreed in 2017, will not offer the anticipated improvements for road users and local residents today.
What happens next
The developer has agreed a financial contribution to the council in lieu of the works being undertaken. Cheshire East Council will now undertake a review of potential improvements for the junction, considering current and future traffic movements and potential development around the site.
